8WISE WAYS TO BOOST YOUR WELLBEING

This week is World Wellbeing Week. The aim of this week is to raise awareness of the importance of wellbeing and how it affects our health, both physical and mental. The past year has been tough for everyone, and there is no better time to commit to looking after your wellbeing.

Our 8Wise™️ approach is a great guide to boosting your wellbeing, and in turn protecting your mental and physical health. Let’s take a look at the 8 dimensions and how we can use them to improve our wellbeing.

PHYSICAL WELLNESS

This covers everything from exercise and healthy eating to personal hygiene and quality sleep. In your daily life, it’s important to make sure you’re getting some movement in – this could be a high intensity HIIT class or a gentle walk around the block. Ensure you’re drinking plenty of water (aim for 8 glasses a day!) and eating your five-a-day along with other essential food groups. We should also be aiming for between 7 and 9 hours of quality sleep a night.

EMOTIONAL WELLNESS

Emotional Wellness is all about being able to control and express our emotions. It’s important to be aware of your emotions, and recognise what might trigger them. Having effective stress management techniques in place for those days that can feel overwhelming is also a great way to improve your emotional wellness. This could be anything from doing five minutes of stretching at your desk to taking some time to focus on your breathing.

ENVIRONMENTAL WELLNESS

Our environment plays a huge part in our wellbeing. Have you ever noticed that you feel more stressed when you’re surrounded by clutter? Keep your living spaces calm and organised, and make sure you spend time in nature and green spaces regularly.

SOCIAL WELLNESS

As humans, we are social creatures so it’s of course important to have social connections. Having a network of family and friends around you does wonders for your wellbeing. Even if you can’t meet face to face, arranging regular phone or zoom calls is a great way to look after your social wellness.

OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS

We spend so much of our life at work, so it’s so important that we enjoy what we do and that it doesn’t negatively affect our wellbeing. Make sure you’re making the most of your annual leave and lunch breaks, and if you’re feeling as though you have too much to do, reach out to your colleagues. It’s also important to have positive relationships with your colleagues as you can end up spending a lot of time with them! Why not ask them to join you for a drink after work, or go to an exercise class with you?

FINANCIAL WELLNESS

One of the largest causes of stress is money – but it doesn’t have to negatively impact your wellbeing. Set yourself a budget each month and make sure you stick to it. It’s also worth assessing your outgoings to see if there are any subscriptions you just don’t use, or perhaps you can better rates on some things. It can be tempting to avoid looking at your bank account sometimes, but make sure you always know exactly what you have, what’s coming in and what’s going out so you don’t cause any extra stress down the line!

SPIRITUAL WELLNESS

Our Spiritual Wellness is intrinsic to our overall wellbeing. It’s important to recognise your core values and live a life that reflects and serves your beliefs. You can also boost your Spiritual Wellness by practicing gratitude, meditating and manifesting.

INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS

Do you know what interests you? What excites you? Doing these things is so important to our overall wellbeing. Whether you want to read a book a week, pick up an instrument or even learn a new language, these are all great for your Intellectual Wellness and in turn your wellbeing.
