Stress is unfortunately very prevalent in the lives of many and it can lead to a whole host of health issues such as heart disease, diabetes and anxiety to name a few. It’s normal to feel stressed sometimes, but it’s vital that you’re able to manage it before it leads to burnout or other mental issues and starts affecting your daily life. Across the pond in Lincoln, Rhode Island, Girl Scout Lucy Stimson has been doing her bit to help herself and others take a stand against stress. Lucy is currently working towards her ‘Gold Award’ which is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn and requires 80 hours of volunteer work in order to make a sustainable difference in the community.
In order to help people in the community to overcome stress, Lucy created a Facebook page called ‘Making a Stress-Free Breakthrough’ which she uses to post regular tips on how to reduce stress levels. She shares a range of topics including meditation and mindfulness. She also posted a Stress Workshop Guidebook which includes a range of activities and advice such as how to make a stress ball, a downloadable homemade colouring book and an animal crossword puzzle.
Lucy has first-hand experience of stress and anxiety and she said that her new project has helped her to open up to her family about mental health. She uses the techniques on her Facebook page herself when she is feeling overly stressed.
